“What drew me to training with Guy initially was his inclusive ethos. I really wanted to train, but was really nervous about getting started, and knew it would require a very special type of person to help me get there. I’m a gay, fat (reclaiming that word), dyspraxic exercise-hating woman who suffers from anxiety, depression and a hormone disorder. I’m what you might call a tricky customer. But from the moment I met Guy there was no sense of any “should bes” or “ideals”, he just met me, found out exactly what I wanted to achieve and worked with me to discover the best way to get there.
There are lots of things I find triggering about engaging with my personal fitness. I remember going to a kettle bell class where stickers covered the wall with phrases such as “BE FIT NOT FAT” and the trainer shouted at us for the whole session and kept encouraging us to think of our beach bodies. I hated it. This couldn’t be further from Guy’s style. He’s more than a trainer, he also feels like a bit of a therapist and a physio, working with your mind and body for you, with you. His process is truly holistic and in tune with where you’re at. His expertise is unquestionable, he crafts each session to your needs and is able to change or adapt if he can find a way to make it suit you better. It’s also fun, he’s fun and has the perfect balance of taking you and your journey seriously without making it feel like a serious or pressured environment.
I would really recommend training with Guy and if you’re unsure, I’d recommend meeting him for a free consultation. In that first hour so many of my fears were put at ease and I already felt like I was working with someone I could trust. I was also really unsure about training in a ‘gym’ space. I was nervous about other people and feeling like a fish out of water. However, Synergi is a pretty special place, we often have it completely to ourselves or share with just one or two other people who are always so respectful. Since the pandemic we’ve been training over Zoom which has been surprisingly successful despite me having zero gym equipment at home, which is another testament to Guy’s adaptability!”
